School Lunch and Nutrition
Parents in Texas no longer need to worry about the quality of meals they children get at school.
The strict Texas Public School Nutrition Policy has been now installed.
So what does it do? Well, for start, the policy eliminates all deep-fat frying foods. Moreover, portions cannot be larger than 3 ounces
and one kid can only get one portion.
What's next? No more white rice, only brown rice is now available, and vending machines are closed during school day.
So now there's no more selling candy and junk food - they used t be the first things a kid would put at their plate and eat.
The policy obviously doesn't limit what parents put in their kids' lunch bags, so if the policy is to succeed, parents cooperation
is crucial.
The policy has been installed as a reaction to the fact that too many kids in Texas are overweight.
The project has been designed to prevent availability of junk foods at school and therefore enforce
good eating patterns, which can then be transfered and continued at homes.
